Vandals cause $50K damage at sewer plant

Garfield County sheriff’s investigators are seeking information on a break-in and vandalism at the Spring Valley sewer treatment plant.Sometime over the weekend vandals broke into the wastewater treatment facility, smashed windows, ransacked the office, vandalized a van and stole items from the building.The plant, on County Road 114, belongs to the Spring Valley Sanitation District.Damage to the plant and property is estimated to be more than $50,000.Investigators believe that several types of acid used at the wastewater treatment plant were either tampered with or taken from the facility.“These acids are caustic and if improperly mixed or handled could be volatile,” …
